One of the most important seeds planted in my mind came from a houdeholder in service. He asked: "shouldn't Abraham have said 'NO!' when God asked him to cut up his son and burn the body?". I agreed, and left.

Finally Gave My First Anti-Witness After 11 Years
by new light inhello one and all.. the local jws had a booth set up at my university today and something just came over me.
i went to a computer, found a list of failed prophecies, printed and stapled it, and walked over to the middle aged woman and the 10-ish years old girl.
the woman said "if you are interested in anything, take it for free.

DINOSAURS - What do Jehovah's Witnesses Believe?
by Bloody Hotdogs! inas part of my deconversion catharsis, i have been building a(nother) website to highlight some of the more ridiculous jw beliefs.

I tracked it down...
From the brochure "Enjoy Life on Earth Forever!", 1982:
Original picture from "My Book of Bible Stories", 1978:
It would seem that they removed the woman holding a baby and added extra lightning, more people drowning, and a dinosaur or two (at least, that sure looks like a dinosaur...)!

Apognophos, thanks for making me think!
My understanding of the physics of the water canopy is as follows: Material can either orbit the earth or bear directly on it (I'm unaware of a third option). Therefore, water can either orbit the earth (something like the ice rings of Saturn) or ‘float’ in the atmosphere (something like clouds and vapour), which in turn bears directly on Earth’s surface. If the water canopy existed toward the outer reaches of our atmosphere (not actually very high up at all), it would indeed turn to ice fall straight down.
As for the effect on carbon dating - I’m going to have to re-think that… my head hurts.
Also, you have made me seriously doubt the 7000 year thing. Maybe they do intend to allow for millions of years. It’s just that, a simple reading of their literature gives such a different impression...

Continuing to think out loud… If JWs mean to indicate that the creative “days” were "thousands of thousands" of years long, they surely do not mean the same for “day” seven. This would indicate that the “days” of the creative week are not the same length! Now, JWs have never said that, have they? I know they say that events started in one day overlapped into the others, but they never indicate the days are different lengths.
Also, millions of years would not be “thousands” of years, by any traditional or mathmatical definition of the term "thousands". I suppose they could mean 999,999 years…. This is all so stupid.

_Morpheus, if only there was a recording!
The infamouse 1990 Awake! (not that long ago) says that scientists cannot answer with cerainty what happened to the dinosaurs or when. Why? According to the article, Noah's Flood screwed up carbon dating! I kid you not.
Since they have never retracted anything in that article, and have never contradicted it with new light, I think we can assume it to be current teaching.

Thanks Apognophos!
I actually have no idea what the rules are about using JW art. I have tried to only take still images from JW videos, for the purpose of commentary and/or critiscim. I feel like that ought to be allowed, even if it isn't technically…
As for the creative "days": The way I always understood it, JWs base the length of the six days on how long they want/need day seven to be. If the "end" is imminent, day seven must be very close to 7000 years. What's your take on that?
Also, they have stated in very recent literature that each "day" was "thousands" of years long. That would be the most limiting definition thay have commited to, and therefore the one they should be held to (I think...). If they really mean millions, or "thousands of thousands", they have neither said that nor indicated it in any way. They even hedge thier bets on the "thousands" of years, usually saying "may have” or “could have". That is why, I belive, they always clearly differentiate between the millions/billions of years before creation and the "days" of creation.
I think they're deliberatly trying to obfuscate thier true belifes. Due to your prompting, however, I will do some more research!

Hi Apognophos
Yes! I'm horrible at spelling, grammar, and writing in general. Not that I expect you to go through that much trouble….

Hi OneEyedJoe
As far as I can tell, JWs are NOT traditional old-earth creationists - relative to reality, they are young earth creationists. I tried to adress this issue on another page: http://www.jwbeliefs.com/jehovahs-witnesses-believe-creative-days/
Of course, I'm also open to correction if my information/quotes are not correct... It is true that a lot of what they believe will hinge on this teaching.

Hi all,
As part of my deconversion catharsis, I have been building a(nother) website to highlight some of the more ridiculous JW beliefs. I’m a looong way from done, but I wanted some early feedback on one article: Dinosaurs. http://www.jwbeliefs.com/dinosaurs/
I would like to know if I have misrepresented any JW beliefs - that is not my intention. I’d also love to know if there are any good images or quotes that I have missed.
The site gets almost no hits, so I’m not doing this because I think it will make a difference. It’s just nice to get a few things off my chest! The truth of what JWs teach about ancient life and natural history always bothered me...
Cheers!
